Since 2003, HIV/AIDS prevention and care and support services have been a key focus area for COHED. Our work has been driven by our goal to improve the quality of life of individuals living with and affected by HIV/AIDS and by three main objectives, including:

To decrease HIV infection rate among MARP groups and community
•
To improve the quality of life for people living with HIV/AIDS and OVC.
•
Capacity building and and positive living for people living with
HIV/AIDS and vulnerable populations.
COHED’s response to HIV/AIDS has
covered a wide spectrum of activities, including prevention within at-risk
populations, care and support, advocacy and community-based care and support
service and HIV/AIDS education and communication activities.
As part of our objectives, COHED
has worked in partnership with target populations, government agencies and
other stakeholders to develop coordinated efforts and meaningful participation
between relevant stakeholders. We also continue to work towards building
capacity and enabling the participation of community-based organisations (CBOs)
as part of our response to HIV/AIDS. COHED also places great emphasis on
vulnerable and marginalised groups, particularly women and children infected
and affected by HIV.
Main beneficiaries of COHED
HIV/AIDS program include:

Most-at-risk Population Groups (MARP) including injecting drug users (
IDUs), commercial sex workers (SWs), men
have sex with men (MSM) and female sexual partners
•
People living with HIV (PLHIV) and their family members.
•
Orphans, children living with and affected by HIV/AIDS and their
families.
•
Community-based organizations (including self-help groups of people living
with HIV/AIDS and high-risk populations)
•
Migrant groups
•
Community populations
Over the past
decade (2003-2013) COHED, in partnership with various local partners, has
reached and provided care support to 5,737 people living with HIV/AIDS (PLHIV),
341 HIV infected children and 5,560 other vulnerable children (OVCs). COHED has
also provided prevention package services to 7,659 injecting drug users (IDUs),
3,293 men who have sex with men (MSM), and 617 commercial sex workers (CSW)
throughout the country.
